Oily skin

Oily skin is a common condition, but it is often treated incorrectly, with overly degreasing or aggressive products that, instead of improving the situation, end up altering the skin's balance and increasing sebum production.

Oily skin can be recognised by shine, enlarged pores and a tendency to pimples and blemishes, especially in the T-zone. When these characteristics are only present in certain areas of the face, one speaks of combination skin. In both cases it is essential to use specific products that gently purify the skin, regulate sebum and keep the skin hydrated, helping to restore balance and evenness.

With Max Pier products dedicated to oily and combination skin, you can build an effective routine that respects your face and visibly improves over time.

What is oily skin due to?

Oily skin is caused by excessive activity of the sebaceous glands, which produce too much sebum. When produced in excessive quantities, sebum can accumulate on the skin surface, causing shine, enlarged pores, impurities and pimples.

The causes of excess sebum can be different: genetic predisposition, hormonal changes (such as adolescence, menstrual cycle, pregnancy or menopause), prolonged stress, a diet rich in sugar and fat, or the use of inappropriate cosmetic products are all factors that can contribute to this condition.

A very common mistake is to think that oily skin should be dried out. In reality, many times the skin produces more sebum because it is dehydrated: in the absence of water, the skin barrier defends itself by increasing the production of lipids (i.e. fats). This compensation mechanism makes the situation worse: you get apparently oily skin, but in reality unbalanced and unhealthy.

This is why it is essential to choose products that are purifying but not aggressive, capable of normalising sebum production without altering the skin's hydration.

How to treat oily skin (without stressing it!)

The first mistake to avoid is to attack it with treatments that are too strong: the risk is to obtain the opposite effect, more sebum and more blemishes. The winning strategy? A targeted, rebalancing and constant routine. Here are the fundamental steps:

  • Gentle but deep cleansing: our facial cleansers for oily skin remove impurities and excess sebum without drying out the skin. If you have combination areas, opt for a facial cleanser for combination skin, such as Akn Soap, which treats each area with the right balance.
  • Regular exfoliation: we have designed a facial scrub for oily skin, to be used 1-2 times a week, to prevent the build-up of dead skin cells and unclog pores.
  • Purifying mask: our face masks for oily skin can help rebalance the skin, mattify and reduce the appearance of enlarged pores.
  • Light, functional moisturising: yes, oily skin needs moisturising too! Choose a moisturiser for combination skin, such as our HA3D01 cream, or our specific anti-imperfection formulas, such as Akn Gel, which moisturise without weighing you down and keep pimples and shine under control.

Pimples and blemishes: how to take targeted action

The appearance of pimples on oily skin is common and manageable, but only with the right products. Pimple creams help to dry out localised impurities and prevent their formation, without irritating the skin.

Max Pier offers a selection of anti-imperfection creams and rebalancing facial treatments designed to work effectively and gently, even on the most sensitive skin. Our formulas help to improve skin texture and keep the face clean and even.
